Politics is heating up...in so many ways.

Perhaps the most attractive woman in politics today...this is the wife of San Francisco's mayor Gavin Newsom, in the news these days for his stand on same-sex marriage...the formerly Kimberly Guilfoyle was in the media all last year for the infamous, soap-operaesque dog-mauling case. What a power couple!

Less dramatic...years ago, he'd been my political hero...now that Colin Powell's career moves from epic to tragic...I actually admire him even more.

Sadly, the primaries are cooling down(great article, reg. required)...though not over yet(ditto). See below for more.
----------------------------------

I've spent an hour cleaning my room tonight...because our maid is coming tomorrow and I don't want her to think I'm messy.

----------------------------------

Don't make a spongmonkey out of me

Quizno's is pimping them for all they're worth...but I remember when they were the Internet equivalent of a garage band sensation. (Props to Leland for spotting this link first.)

----------------------------------

Heading to the movies?

You might want to pick from one of these--especially before Badal's 6th birthday this Sunday. Or pick their chances (reg. required.)

Miracle is awesome.

Doesn't it just make you want to clap out loud? Even during the movie? Maybe if you're like me...

Just thought it was a really enjoyable time...if you want to learn more about the true story...go here and here. And whatever happened to Jim Craig, the unbelievable goalie for the US?

Don't sleep on this German charmer, opening Friday.

----------------------------------

What possess a man to run for president?

You sacrifice your principles, you give up your health. You're dragged through the mud, because you're not enough to some and too much to others. Yet there are some who seem to need to campaign.

Ralph Nader, announcing his candidacy again yesterday, is one of these evergreen, hopeless candidates. Is he really a great man? Or just a thorn Goring Democrats in the side?

----------------------------------

Gordon Sumner is 52. And pallindromically, Andy owes me $2.50.

.

Damn.

More just terrible sports news--and this is legitimately terrible, not just the annoying A-Rod variety. Every time a court-rushing is involved, you always wonder if something like this is going to happen.
----------------------------

Sports news aside...my last, laundry list post--followed by a week of silence--actually led to a few concerned e-mails.

Well....ok, just one concerned e-mail....from my mom.

And she writes to ask "are you ok?" every two days or so anyway. I doubt she actually gets worried anymore...more like a kneejerk reaction.

So, thanks, mom, for your touching concern. And to the rest of you who have e-mailed or IMed solely because you've been bored at work and want me to give you a brief distraction...well, I cave in pretty easily.

Though I haven't written anything for a while--just been busy--I've dutifully collected various links for your perusal...

General interest------------

We were watching part of the Grammy's and trying to make the distinction between Song of the Year, Record of the Year, etc. Rather than treat you to our half-assed conclusion, here's Slate's brief grammy explanation.

These penguins sure are happy.

To quote Brendan, "Is there any other explanation for men who dress in tuxedos every day?"

Those bastards at Harvard have done it again...they really are the fun Ivy.

Sports----------

I always wondered about the fat hockey goalie...and other relevant ponderings.

The story of Miami LB-to-be Willie Williams is making national headlines--his weekly recruiting diaries were must-reads for fans (and must-critiques by observers); his rap sheet was apparently a mis-read by coaches.

He may not look like a baller...

but this freshman outplayed Maryland back in December; he will be a college basketball star by the end of his career, if he's not already.

Re-visiting The Last Shot: Darcy Frey's excellent basketball chronicle of a year-in-the-life of NYC high schoolers looking for a way out, updated in the New York Times Magazine yesterday.

re: A-Rod...wishful thinking in Charm City.

Ruminations on the Internet----------

Really is an interesting rumination on the Internet.

The next friendster? It can't compare for size, but it does have the buzz.

...wishes it was the next Friendster.

Funny...free...and profitable. How does the Onion do it?

Late breaking Heard about this earlier--but Triumph is apparently a national scandal in Canada!

I'm so tired, I'm getting those flashes in front of my eyes
Keep thinking that someone keeps flipping the lights off and on.

Statistical tally so far (since 5:30 last night):
1 Gin and Tonic
1 bowl's worth of bar pretzels
1/2 a club sandwich
16 oz or an entire container of Cool Whip Lite (with 2 tsp of chocolate syrup)
1 stryofoam container of Margaret's leftovers from Benihana
4 songs played on the piano
14 CDs listened to
2 hershey's kisses that I stole from Michelle
3 e-mails composed (which is pretty good)
5 oz of Jasmine tea
4 calls not returned (but 2 that I answered, which is also a pretty good ratio for me)
104 Pennsylvania-69 Harvard
61 pages of an issue brief written

...and 5 minutes wasted writing this. Peace.

Little Rob's excited

He must have known that--given Maryland's struggles and Penn's disappearing act last weekend--I'm all aboard the 19-0 Cardinal bandwagon!

It's psuedo-legit...for nine glorious weeks, I was once a Stanford student. Count me one again--at heart--for the next nine.

---------------------------------

Haven't updated my book or music links on the right in forever--takes too long. Though you'll be happy to know they're all applicable, given little progress on the reading and that I'm still listening to all three CDs. But really recommend the new one from Air.

---------------------------------

Try to keep work and everything else separate...but given the amount of stuff I've had to learn about Magnets the past week, there hasn't been much of anything to keep separate.

---------------------------------

Today is a special day for me...and looks like I'm not the first person with a blog to make that claim.

Name the kid in the picture

If you guessed Sebastian aka Bassie Telfair...you'll want to read the cool story on it here.

-----------------------------

Two pictures I saw today that I really liked (and one that terrified me). The Marbury/Telfair one's above; other's below...

A 16-foot, 2,000 pound chocolate heart...even to me, seems too much. But man, just think of how much chocolate that would be...

-----------------------------

Waste time with Steven Colbert of the Daily Show and Mo Rocca, ex- of the same program.

-----------------------------

Before Lost in Translation wins Bill Murray an Oscar...see the translation of one of the movie's funniest scenes.

-----------------------------

Penn kids married as of Freshman year...parents by Sophomore. Sounds scary...but since JoJo was for all intents and purposes Mr. Nisha Thomas, maybe it's not that big a deal.

Bad year for Super Bowl ads
It didn't even seem like there were very many of them, anyway, this year...just endless repetitions of CBS programming, both national and local.

The "best" ads are available here...but it's a real best-of-the-worst this time. (All the ads, with a "winner," are available here.)
